Who is Joseph Reinhardt?
Joseph “Nin-Nin” Reinhardt, born in 1912 in Meuse, France, was an accomplished guitarist and a pivotal figure in the world of gypsy jazz. He was the younger brother of Django Reinhardt, one of the most influential jazz guitarists of all time. Growing up in a musical Romani family, Joseph was introduced to the guitar at a young age, following in his brother’s musical footsteps.
Despite often being overshadowed by Django’s prodigious talent and fame, Joseph established his own place in the music world. He developed a distinctive style as a rhythm guitarist, providing the harmonic foundation over which Django’s virtuosic solos soared. The synergy between the brothers was palpable, helping shape the unique sound that defined the era of gypsy jazz.
