Who is Christophe Astolfi?
Christophe Astolfi was born in Lorraine and started playing the guitar at the age of 12. He became familiar with the music of Django Reinhardt through Italian and gypsy guitarists in his region, including Tchavolo and Dorado Schmitt.
In 1998, he settled in Brussels, where he became a representative of the “reinhardt” tradition in Belgium. During his 10 years there, he played with renowned jazz musicians such as Philip Catherine, Toots Thielemans, Koen Decauter, and Tcha Limberger. He also recorded music for advertising and theater while working on his personal projects.
In 2008, Christophe moved to Paris and quickly became a prominent figure in the local gypsy jazz scene. He played alongside David Reinhardt, Samy Daussat, Rodolphe Raffalli, and Hugo Lippi.
In 2010, he participated in the project “Djangodrom,” directed by Tony Gatlif, alongside Bireli Lagrène, Didier Lockwood, and Stochelo Rosenberg.
In 2013, Christophe released his album “Des Valses,” recorded in trio and dedicated to swing waltzes and gypsy waltzes. The album quickly became a must-have in the world of gypsy jazz, and Christophe was recognized as one of the leading representatives of this style.
Between 2015 and 2016, he recorded two albums with Boulou and Elios Ferré. In November 2016, he published the first guitar method devoted to the gypsy waltz with Éditions Coup de Pouce. His work was well received, and Christophe is regularly invited to present his work through concerts and masterclasses in France, Europe, and the United States.
