Who is David Reinhardt?

David Reinhardt, born on December 23, 1986, began his musical journey at the age of 6 on the stage of the Django d’Or “Trophées Internationaux du Jazz” at the Théâtre de Boulogne-Billancourt on May 14, 1993, alongside his father Reinhardt, who passed away in Grasse on November 13, 2001. Together, they paid one of the finest tributes to Django Reinhardt, the inventor of European jazz. A simple story, and a few years later, David Reinhardt found himself propelled onto the most prestigious jazz stages in France and internationally: Europe Jazz Festival in Le Mans, Jazz in Liège, Cultural Center of Algiers, Theater of Tunis, Philips Dubai International Jazz Festival, Jazz in Marciac, Turin International Gypsy Jazz Festival, Midem in Cannes, Django Reinhardt Memorial in Augsburg, Jazz in Vienna, and more.

David Reinhardt continues his musical path within the New Trio Gitan initiated by Christian Escoudé, accompanied by Jean-Baptiste Laya, and the Django Memory Quartet with François Arnaud, Jean-Marc Jafet, and Richard Manetti. But David Reinhardt is also the leader of the David Reinhardt Trio, which exists in two formations with three guitarists, including Noé Reinhardt and Samy Daussat, or with organist Florent Gac and drummer Yoann Serra. In the 21st century, David Reinhardt offers us the best of the Django tradition by creating his own language.

Since 2010, he has been playing in jazz festivals, concerts, and appearances with many gypsy jazz musicians to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Django Reinhardt’s birthday. This continued in 2011. Towards the end of 2011 and the beginning of 2012, he states that a personal experience changed his life. He discovered his faith in Jesus, which had an impact on his personal life and music as well, blending American gospel music and Evangelical Gypsy music into his repertoire. With this change, he formed a new band called “Spiritual Project” in 2015, together with like-minded musicians such as Dominique Di Piazza, Costel Nitescu, and others. The project included David’s compositions as well as American gospel songs, among others. This project lasted a couple of years, after which he continued with his solo project and collaborations with other musicians. After that, he recorded “Pieces for You” with his compositions and American gospel songs too.

In 2023, David Reinhardt is conducting conferences about the life and style of Django called “Stage de Guitare” in Samois Sur Seine, France.
