Who is Elios Ferré?
Elios Ferré, born on December 18, 1956, is a French jazz guitarist who has made significant contributions to the world of music.
Growing up in a musical family, Elios was exposed to the rich heritage of jazz from an early age. His father, Pierre Matelo Ferret, was not only a friend of the legendary Django Reinhardt but also had the honor of playing alongside him. Elios’s uncle, Baro Ferret, was another influential figure in his life who shared a close bond with Django Reinhardt. These familial connections to the legendary guitarist served as an early inspiration for Elios.
Initially drawn to the piano, Elios eventually found his true passion in the guitar, influenced by the captivating sounds of flamenco and the playing of Jimi Hendrix. He pursued his musical education by studying harmony and composition under the guidance of Pierre Lantier, further honing his skills and deepening his understanding of music.
At the remarkable age of 14, Elios recorded his first record for Disques Barclay, marking the beginning of his professional career. This early achievement showcased his prodigious talent and set the stage for his future endeavors.
Since 1978, Elios has been an integral part of the musical duo with his older brother, guitarist Boulou Ferré. Their collaboration is deeply rooted in the style of Django Reinhardt, paying homage to the jazz legend. The Ferré brothers have expanded their musical repertoire by performing in larger ensembles, ranging from trios to quintets.
