Eugène Salvator Vées (1890-1951) was a French violinist who made significant contributions to the world of Gypsy Jazz, Jazz manouche music during his lifetime. Born in Paris, Vées was a member of a family of musicians, which included his father, Emile Vées, who was a famous violinist, and his uncle, Charles Vées, who was a renowned conductor. Vées himself became a prominent musician in his own right, and his legacy continued through his son, Eugène Vées, and his nephew, Django Reinhardt.
He was the uncle of legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt. Reinhardt was actually Vées’ nephew, and the two musicians often played together, with Vées accompanying Reinhardt on the violin. Vées was known for his ability to blend the sound of the violin with the guitar, creating a unique and captivating sound that captivated audiences.
