Saussois began playing the guitar at a young age and quickly showed a talent for the instrument. He was drawn to the music of Django Reinhardt, the legendary Belgian-born French jazz guitarist who is widely regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time. Reinhardt’s music, which blended traditional gypsy music with jazz, would have a profound impact on Saussois’ own musical style.
Throughout his career, Saussois played in several bands, including Alma Sinti, Gypsy Reunion, Jazz A Cordes Quintet, Patrick Saussois & Co., Patrick Saussois Quartet, Patrick Saussois Quintet, Patrick Saussois Swing Sextet, and Patrick Saussois Trio. In each of these bands, Saussois demonstrated his virtuosity on the guitar, impressing audiences with his technical skill and improvisational prowess.
In addition to his work as a performer, Saussois was also a label founder of Djaz Records. Djaz Records was founded in 1989 and quickly became one of the most respected jazz labels in France. Saussois used the label as a platform to promote jazz music and support emerging jazz musicians.
Saussois’ musical career was tragically cut short when he passed away on September 21, 2012, in Paris, France. His death was a loss to the world of jazz music, but his legacy lives on through his recordings and the musicians he inspired.
Saussois was also the husband of Lodie Serrano, a French singer who was known for her work in the jazz and gypsy jazz genres. Together, they formed a formidable musical duo, and their collaborations remain highly regarded in the world of jazz music.
