Who is René Mailhes?

René Mailhes, a renowned French guitarist, left an indelible mark on the world of jazz with his exceptional talent and musical contributions. Born in France in 1935, René’s musical journey was enriched by his familial connection to the famous Ferret family, known for their contributions to the gypsy jazz tradition.

Throughout his career, René played in several bands, showcasing his virtuosity and versatility. He was a member of Glenn Jack Et Ses Glenners, where he contributed his exceptional guitar skills to the ensemble’s captivating performances. René also led his own group, the René Mailhes Trio, further establishing himself as a respected and influential figure in the jazz scene.

René’s musical development was greatly influenced by the guidance of esteemed mentors such as Chaillin Ferret, Poulette Castro, and Gusti Malha. These influential figures imparted their knowledge and expertise, shaping René’s playing style and helping him refine his technique.

Paris’s vibrant Saint-Germain de Pres served as a stage for René’s musical pursuits, where he had the opportunity to collaborate with Serane Ferret, another member of the illustrious Ferret family.
