Who is Sanseverino?
Stéphane Sanseverino, also known simply as Sanseverino, is a French guitarist, singer, and songwriter born on October 9, 1961. He is widely recognized for his contributions to the tradition of jazz manouche music, a style of jazz heavily influenced by the legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt. Sanseverino is an autodidact musician who has played with several bands throughout his career, including Les Voleurs De Poules, Dans l’Intérêt Des Familles, Doc Denat, and Les Maris Jaloux.
Sanseverino’s music is characterized by its upbeat, energetic rhythms, intricate guitar work, and catchy melodies. His songs often incorporate elements of traditional French chanson music, as well as American rock and roll and country music. Sanseverino’s distinctive style has won him many fans throughout France and beyond, and he has been recognized with several awards and accolades throughout his career.
One of Sanseverino’s biggest shows was at the French music gala Victoires de la Musique in 2003. The Victoires de la Musique are an annual event that celebrates the best in French music, and winning an award is considered a significant achievement in the industry. Sanseverino was recognized for his contributions to jazz manouche music, which was still relatively niche at the time.
Throughout his career, Sanseverino has released several albums that have been widely acclaimed by both fans and critics alike. His discography includes Le tango des gens (2001), Les Sénégalaises (2004), Exactement (2006), Les faux talbins (2009), Honky Tonk (2013), and Montreuil / Memphis (2017), among others. His most recent album, Sanseverino & Tangomotán, was released in 2019 in collaboration with the Argentinean band Tangomotán.
In addition to his work as a musician, Sanseverino is also a respected visual artist. He has created numerous illustrations and paintings that have been exhibited in galleries throughout France, and his art has been featured on several of his album covers.
