Who is Stéphane Wrembel?

Stéphane Wrembel is a French jazz guitarist and composer whose innovative style has garnered international acclaim. Born in Fontainebleau, France, in 1974, Wrembel exhibited a passion for music from a young age and began his musical journey studying classical piano at just four years old.

During his teenage years, Wrembel’s fascination with jazz blossomed, leading him to enroll at the American School of Modern Music in Paris. It was here that he first encountered the music of Django Reinhardt, a legendary French guitarist renowned for his contributions to European jazz. Reinhardt’s groundbreaking style captivated Wrembel, inspiring him to delve into the realms of composition, arrangement, jazz, and contemporary classical music.

In 2002, Wrembel attended the Django Reinhardt Festival in Samois, France, which proved to be a pivotal moment in his career. Fueled by his experience at the festival, Wrembel made the resolute decision to dedicate his life to music. He ventured across the Atlantic to New York City, where he swiftly established himself as a rising star in the vibrant jazz scene.

Throughout his journey, Wrembel has collaborated with a diverse array of musicians, ranging from the likes of Al Di Meola and David Grisman to Patti Smith. His discography boasts a collection of highly acclaimed albums, including “Origins,” “Barbes Brooklyn,” and “The Django Experiment.”

Notably, Wrembel achieved significant recognition for his involvement in the soundtrack of Woody Allen’s 2011 film “Midnight in Paris.” His original composition, “Bistro Fada,” played a prominent role in the film and garnered him a Grammy nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
